Severe Weather in Southwestern Parts of Germany

A severe storm passed Saarland, parts of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, and Baden-Wurttemberg last night.

In Wiesbaden fire service was on duty more than 300 times during the night. The thunderstorm cleared the roofs of several houses within minutes and uprooted trees. In Kaiserslautern there were also many fire brigade operations due to falling trees and roadblocks.

In Baden-Wurttemberg – for example in Freiburg – many roads were flooded and blocked by falling trees. At Stuttgart Airport delays and flight cancellations have been reported for Sunday evening.

In the inland port of Mainz some deep sea container fell on a nearby road and damaged some power supply lines.
