Affected Areas: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Slovakia, Czech Republik, Poland, Austria

Far more than one million inhabitants in the south and southeast of Europe are affected by floodings. Extremely high floods claimed at least 44 lives in the Balkans.

Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia
Many places are still flooded with metres of water. Furthermore, a number of regions are threatened by landslides. In Gracanica in the northeast of Bosnia alone, 300 hazard areas have been found. In western Serbia the areas around the cities of Bajina Basa, Valjevo and Pozega are the most threatened.

The Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina informs that the floods will affect the provision of postal services by the country’s three designated operators (BH Post Sarajevo, Croatian Post Mostar and Post Srpske Banja Luka) and cause delays in the collection and delivery of letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items.

Slovakia
Hurricane-like storms and continuous rain caused traffic chaos and severe damage in Slovakia. Numerous roads are blocked, particularly in the east and the north of the country.

Czech Republic
Czech authorities issued flood warnings for the eastern regions of Moravia-Silesia, Olomouc and Zlin since Friday.

Poland
Heavy rain and storms caused severe damage and local flooding in Poland. The southeast of the country is most affected. Many roads were blocked. Last weekend the situation eased slightly but in 34 communities flood warnings remain in force.

Austria
After the floods the cleanup efforts in Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria and Burgenland are almost finished. There is still the risk of landslides and mudslides.
